Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist

About This Role

This role as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist II involves using specialized MRI equipment to produce diagnostic images that assist radiologists in diagnosing various diseases and disorders. It requires a sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology, technical competency, and the ability to work with initiative and minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Review orders prior to the day of procedure to ensure accuracy and avoid delay in patient care
• Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure and MR safety while utilizing effective communication
• Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist’s interpretation
• Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure
• Perform MRI procedures as required based on physician’s order
• Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of MRI and related coils to obtain highest quality images of the anatomy being scanned
• Start I.V., load and operate power injector, and administer contrast media as directed and per protocol
• Complete exam in hospital information system
• Clean and maintain all imaging equipment
• May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires

Requirements

• Associate's Degree under the completion of a Radiologic Technology program or Certificate under the completion of MRI technology program
• Understand and utilize anatomical positioning, physics
• MRI safety
• Critical thinking
• Time management
• Effective communication
• Proficiency in IV access for contrast media administration
• Magnetic Resonance Imaging - American Registry Radiologic Technologist or registry eligible (if eligible must obtain MR certification within 24 months of hire or transfer date)
• Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two year

Nice to have:

• Minimum one (1) year MRI experience
• Radiography - South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association
