Machinist

About This Role

This machinist role in the Chicago area involves operating both manual and CNC machines in a heavy manufacturing environment. The position requires interpreting blueprints and CAD files, setting up and operating various machines, and performing quality control to ensure precision.

Responsibilities

• Read and analyze complex engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and CAD/CAM files to determine dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences
• Set up, secure, and align work holding devices, attachments, and cutting tools on manual and CNC lathes, milling machines, grinders, or presses
• Enter or edit G-code instructions, adjust feed rates, speeds, and depths of cut, and perform tool proofing on initial production runs
• Inspect finished work pieces using precision measurement tools like micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to ensure strict adherence to specifications
• Diagnose mechanical or programming issues during production, perform minor equipment repairs, and conduct routine machine maintenance

Requirements

• 3-5 years
• Fanuc Control experience
• Ability to create your own set-up
• Advanced knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an advanced understanding of geometric tolerancing and dimensions
• Basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for calculating material fabrication
• Knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments including calipers, OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales
• Knowledge of various tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, and inserts used on various machines

• Schedule: 1st shift, 7am-5pm
