LPN Unit Manager

Position Summary
The LPN Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing operations of a designated unit or department within a healthcare facility, such as a long-term care center, rehabilitation facility, or assisted living community. This role combines direct patient care with leadership responsibilities, ensuring quality care, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and effective communication among residents, families, and the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Management

  • Coordinate and oversee resident/patient care within the assigned unit.
  • Monitor residents' health status and report changes to physicians and registered nurses.
  • Ensure nursing care plans are implemented and updated as needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and facility policies.
  • Respond to clinical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise nursing staff, including LPNs, CNAs, and other support personnel.
  • Assign workloads and monitor staff performance.
  • Assist with orientation, training, and mentoring of new employees.
  • Promote adherence to clinical standards, policies, and procedures.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement and infection control initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Prepare for and assist during regulatory surveys and inspections.

Resident & Family Relations

  • Communicate with residents and families regarding care plans and concerns.
  • Address complaints and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
  • Advocate for resident rights and quality of life.

Administrative Duties

  • Manage staffing schedules and coordinate shift coverage.
  • Monitor supplies and equipment needs for the unit.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care meetings.
  • Complete reports and maintain unit records.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current LPN license in the applicable state.
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
  • Experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or a related healthcare setting.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Previous supervisory or charge nurse experience.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and survey processes.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHRs).
