About the role
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) in various patient care departments.
Responsibilities include administering medications (excluding IV push) , performing dressing changes, wound care, trach care, NG tube insertion and maintenance, and Ostomy care . The LPN documents assessments and care plans after initial evaluations by an RN, and reports patients' responses for evaluation and care modification.
Key duties encompass patient education, discharge instructions, safety reporting, and collaboration with physicians and APPs . The role involves working with a nurse preceptor to perform unit-specific responsibilities, ensuring patient and staff safety .
Qualifications include a college diploma as an LPN , an active Illinois LPN license , and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days.
Skills required are effective communication, teamwork, documentation accuracy, and adherence to departmental competencies . The position emphasizes continuous learning, safety, and quality improvement .
