Description

This on-site, contract position offers a unique opportunity to provide high-quality neurological care to patients while enjoying the flexibility of a locum tenens assignment in a vibrant coastal city.

As a Locum Neurologist, you will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with a wide range of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and chronic headache conditions. You will work within a collaborative healthcare environment alongside other physicians, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care that aligns with our commitment to clinical excellence and positive patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive neurological evaluations and patient consultations
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including EEG, EMG, MRI, and CT scans
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with neurological conditions
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including anticonvulsants, muscle relaxants, and disease-modifying therapies
  • Provide emergency neurological consultations and manage acute stroke cases as needed
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians and specialists to coordinate patient care
  • Document patient histories, examination findings, and treatment plans accurately in electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Educate patients and their families about neurological conditions, treatment options, and preventive care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions
  • Adhere to all medical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in neurology and evidence-based practices
  • Provide coverage for on-call rotations and inpatient consultations as scheduled

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Neurology
  • Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of South Carolina, or the ability to obtain licensure in a timely manner
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in Neurology
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical neurology experience, including residency training
  • Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective patient interaction and documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
  • Fellowship training in a neurology subspecialty (e.g., stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular) is preferred
  • Experience with EMG/EEG interpretation is a plus
  • DEA registration and BLS/ACLS certification

Schedule: 24-hour shifts, 1 week per month

Setting: Inpatient

Daily Volume: 6-12 patients

Case Types: Rounding on inpatients, ICU, NICU, ER, and other consults

Will round with residents

Must be board-certified
