Lifeguard

About This Role

This part-time, temporary, at-will Lifeguard position performs a variety of work in connection with programs and activities of an aquatic facility, including teaching swim lessons and classes, explaining and enforcing swimming programs and pool policies, regulations, and rules, and ensuring the safety of pool patrons. The role involves working outdoors and making a difference in the community, performing rescues and first aid as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Act as lifeguard during pool hours and at all events held at the pool
• Administer minor first aid and CPR as necessary
• Implement and enforce City policies, rules, and procedures
• Listen and respond to patrons' needs for assistance or information
• Provide the public with general information, in person and over the phone
• Remove and replace pool covers
• Test the temperature, chlorine, and pH values of the pool water
• Perform routine pool area maintenance as required
• Perform basic custodial duties and routine facility maintenance, including repairs and preventative maintenance of the deck, pool, equipment, office, and locker rooms
• Monitor facility use; open, close, and secure building for events
• Assist in the supervision and preparation of the facility and amenities for patron use
• Assist in the encouragement of participation and good sportsmanship
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies
• Perform a variety of clerical or technical tasks in support of City programs, including screening calls and patrons
• Respond to complaints and requests for information
• Assist in interpreting and applying regulations, policies, procedures, systems, rules, and precedents in response to inquiries and complaints from the public
• Perform cashiering duties
• Maintain a variety of accurate logs, records, and files
• Lead and conduct diversified recreation activities including birthday parties, water-oriented games, water exercise, and community events
• Set up and take down equipment for facility rentals and community events
• Assist in community service community events, including setting up and taking down and facilitating activities
• Purchase supplies for events and pool maintenance as needed
• Observe safe work methods and make appropriate use of related safety equipment as required
• Respond to first aid emergencies as needed
• Maintain attendance and punctuality that is observant of scheduled hours on a regular basis
• Instruct swim lesson classes (when performing the Swim Instructor assignment)
• Assess swim lesson participants and make recommendations on correct class placements (when performing the Swim Instructor assignment)
