Licensed Practical Nurse - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

About This Role

This night-shift post on the cardiac ward pairs patient care with mentoring new nurses. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the organization's shared vision and values.

Responsibilities

• Competently utilize nursing process in providing direct patient care to high risk infants in a level 2B NICU
• Involve and advocate for the family in all matters of care
• Independently and effectively make decisions and able to adapt to changing situations
• Organize and set priorities
• Build commitment and trust with clients and co-workers
• Promote/maintain safe work environment

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program
• Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA)
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)
• Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
• Basic computer skills
• Current NRP certification
• Good communication skills and ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
• Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required
• Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities
• Ability to work shift work
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the job
• A candidate with strong interest, experience and ability to provide family-centered nursing care to newborn patients and families is required
• Disciplined and family centered care environment

Nice to have:

• Certification in a relevant specialty area and leadership training is preferred
• Recent Level 2 NICU experience preferred
