Library Assistant

About This Role

This role offers a great opportunity to join the teams at Lichfield and Burntwood Libraries, delivering a first-class, customer-focused service in a busy public library environment. The Library Assistant provides essential services, including face-to-face customer enquiries, helping new members, assisting with information retrieval and computer use, and delivering events and activities.

Responsibilities

• Help customers find the information and resources they need
• Provide essential digital support to customers using computers within the libraries or accessing e-services
• Support projects and activities for all ages
• Promote library stock, services, and events through social media and outreach events
• Handle sales and cash
• Open and lock up the Library
• Perform manual handling tasks
• Deliver events/activities, including Baby Bounce & Rhyme
• Deliver other county council services such as processing bus passes and blue badges

Requirements

• Good time management skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• A passion for working with and helping customers, demonstrating experience of serving customers of all ages from across the whole community, face to face
• An interest in working with children, delivering activities such as rhyme, craft sessions, and story times
• Ability to travel effectively to cover at other libraries sometimes at short notice
• Experience of using computer-based information systems and data entry with an attention to detail

Important Details

• Schedule: Will be required to work weekends and evenings, following a two-week rota. Travel to other libraries to provide cover, including Tamworth, Burntwood, and Lichfield Libraries as part of the District Team, plus on occasion libraries in other districts.
• Schedule for Lichfield (32 Hours):
  • Week 1: Mon 8:15am - 5:00pm, Wed 8:15am - 5:00pm, Thu 8:15am - 2:00pm, Fri 8:15am - 5:00pm, Sat 8:45am - 4:00pm
  • Week 2: Mon 8:15am - 5:00pm, Tues 9:00am - 1:00pm, Wed 8:15am - 5:00pm, Thu 8:15am - 6:00pm
• Schedule for Burntwood (27 Hours):
  • Week 1: Mon 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Tue 9:00am - 7:00pm, Thu 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Fri 8:45am - 5:00pm
  • Week 2: Mon 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Tue 9:00am - 7:00pm, Thu 1:00pm - 5:00pm, Sat 9:45am - 4:00pm
