Librarian

About This Role

This full-time Librarian I/II or Lead position is based at the family-friendly Downtown Library and focuses on cataloging, collection development, programming for adults, outreach, and exceptional customer service. The role is key in advancing the library's mission to cultivate community and advance equity by fostering inclusion and belonging for diverse adults.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expertise in cataloging, collection development, programming for adults, outreach, and exceptional customer service
• Foster a sense of inclusion and belonging for diverse adults in the community

Requirements

• Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university
• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record or ability to reliably relocate between locations as needed during scheduled work shift
• Knowledge of principles and procedures of professional library work including methods, practices, and techniques of library classification, cataloging, and Information services
• Knowledge of policies, procedures and functions of professional library work

Librarian I:

• No experience required

Librarian II:

• Two years of experience performing professional library work

Lead Librarian:

• Two years of experience performing professional library work as a Librarian

Nice to have:

• Experience working with children or teens (for Librarian I)
• Experience in a public setting handling in-charge duties (for Lead Librarian)
• At least one year of experience performing professional library work with expertise in cataloging, collection development, programming for adults, outreach, exceptional customer service, and makerspace operations or programming
• Ability to speak Spanish
