Librarian

About This Role

The Librarian is responsible for providing library and information services that support teaching, learning, and research across STADIO’s distance learning programmes. The role focuses on managing library resources and services to enhance the academic experience and support academic excellence, including developing information and digital literacy skills and providing research support.

Responsibilities

• Train students and staff in the identification of relevant resources, and information and digital and internet literacy skills, face-to-face or online
• Coordinate and deliver information and digital training literacy sessions to students, researchers, and staff
• Offer research support to researchers and postgraduate students
• Assist students with academic literacy queries e.g., referencing, plagiarism and writing and language for academic purposes
• Deal with user enquiries, which may involve one-on-one advice sessions
• Function as a member of an academic design team developing a programme or a module
• Contribute to academic course development and liaise with academic departments
• Collate resource requests from module and programme coordinators and support academic schools on campus with library-related audits
• Apply copyright legislation
• Manage the library page on the Campus Canvas course
• Promote awareness of library events, acquisitions, and news on the relevant platforms
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with academic staff and students, as well as external bodies such as suppliers
• Service and maintain institutional relationships, corporate memberships, and subscriptions
• Liaise with IT regarding maintenance of computers and printers
• Manage a friendly and helpful study environment
• Monitor the environment for any safety, health, or environmental concerns
• Develop, maintain, and manage collections of books and journals (both printed and electronic), as well as websites, liaising with academic staff to establish needs

Requirements

• Bachelor of Library and Information Science or an equivalent qualification
• 3 years’ experience of working in a university library supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including those offered through distance learning
• Experience in processing, cataloguing and, classification of materials, and knowledge of referencing software
• Understanding of both traditional and emerging academic library services and standards, as well as emerging technologies
• Proficient in English
• Highly motivated and self-disciplined
• Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
