Legal Assistant/Legal Secretary

About This Role

This in-office position is for an experienced Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary to support a busy criminal defense and municipal court practice. The role suits an organized, dependable, and detail-oriented professional comfortable managing a high-volume practice with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Manage attorney calendar, court appearances, deadlines, and scheduling
• Communicate professionally with clients, courts, prosecutors, and opposing counsel
• Prepare, proofread, and organize legal documents, motion packages, and correspondence
• File documents through NJ eCourts, JEDS, and municipal court systems
• Download, save, and organize digital media files
• Maintain and organize digital and physical case files
• Track deadlines and follow up on outstanding matters
• Answer phones and manage client intake
• Maintain accurate billing, invoicing, and payment tracking
• Create accurate case notes and office records

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years legal assistant or legal secretary experience
• Experience in New Jersey litigation, criminal defense, municipal court, civil, or family practice preferred
• Experience using MyCase case management software strongly preferred
• Familiarity with legal billing and invoicing software required
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills
• Excellent communication and client service skills
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PDF editing, email, and calendaring systems
