0E023W: This is a developmental position leading to the full performance level of GS-8. Closer supervision and technical guidance and/or on-the-job training are provided. Duties are gradually broadened so the incumbent is eventually performing all of the duties of the full performance level, position description number 0E0230.

At the full performance level, the incumbent provides legal and technical support to Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) and other technical/professional positions in the processing of entitlement cases pursuant to Titles II, XVI and XVIII of the Social Security Act, as amended, at the administrative appeals levels. The incumbent is responsible for developing and processing a request for hearing case from its receipt in the office to its completion, independently performing a wide range of case development actions. Assignments consist of processing more complex hearing cases where analysis of the pertinent issues and interpretation of the provisions of the laws, regulations, ruling, precedents, policies, procedures and guidelines relative to the cases are necessary.

Qualifications

For GS-7: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-6 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Interpreting complex laws, regulations and written guidelines (e.g., Federal, State or County laws); Communicating orally, with a large volume of people from different socioeconomic backgrounds in order to resolve problems and provide advice/guidance about program policies, benefits, etc.; Performing administrative and clerical processes using a computer to reconcile discrepancies; and Writing correspondence in response to complex inquiries for technical information and preparing a variety of other types of written work products.

For GS-8: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-7 level, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Researching and interpreting complex laws, regulations and written guidelines (e.g., Federal, State or County laws) as it relates to SSA programs; Communicating orally, with a large volume of people from different socioeconomic backgrounds in order to resolve problems and provide advice/guidance about SSA program policies, SSA benefits, etc.; Performing administrative and clerical processes using a computer to reconcile discrepancies; and Writing correspondence in response to complex inquiries for technical information explaining laws, rules or regulations regarding SSA programs.
