About This Role

Serving as the primary legal assistant to a partner attorney, this role involves managing the day-to-day flow of a busy litigation and insurance defense practice. The position suits an experienced legal assistant or legal secretary who can run the partner's desk, keep files moving, and be a trusted contact for clients.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal assistant to a partner attorney, managing the day-to-day flow of the desk
• Draft and prepare pleadings, discovery, legal correspondence, documents and reports for litigation and insurance defense matters including scheduling, calendaring and assisting attorney with large case load management
• Monitor and maintain legal files, track status and keep matters organized and on schedule
• Be a trusted point of contact for clients: answer questions, solve problems and provide timely updates
• Review work and data for accuracy and completeness to meet firm standards
• Streamline office processes to reduce errors and keep the partner’s practice running smoothly
• Provide general administrative support as needed

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary
• Working knowledge of legal drafting, terminology and court documents
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong eye for detail
• Strong organizational and critical-thinking skills
• Self-starter who works well with minimal supervision in a busy, fast-paced office
• Ability to multitask and shift priorities as deadlines change
• Proficient in MS Word and Excel; quick to learn new software
