Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

Our Real Estate program prepares students for success in the real estate profession through practical training, applied learning, career-ready skills, and an industry-aligned curriculum. We are seeking an experienced real estate professional with a passion for developing the next generation of industry leaders to teach courses in our accelerated Real Estate program. Prepare students for immediate employment by delivering applied instruction focused on current real estate practices, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and employer needs.

Teach courses in our Real Estate program, helping students develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in residential and commercial real estate, brokerage, property management, and related fields. Courses may include Principles of Real Estate I, Principles of Real Estate II, Law of Contracts, Law of Agency, Real Estate Law, Contract Forms, Real Estate Brokerage, Real Estate Appraisal, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Investments, Property Management, Real Estate Marketing, Real Estate Construction, Urban Planning, Real Estate Computer Applications, Fundamentals of Environmental Issues, and Cooperative Education – Real Estate, depending on the selected candidate’s expertise and program needs. This is a part-time online position, ideal for practicing real estate professionals who want to share their expertise and experience with future real estate professionals.

Delivers engaging, applied instruction in Real Estate courses. Develops syllabi, lesson plans, learning activities, and assessments aligned with program outcomes and industry standards. Provides constructive feedback and academic support to students. Maintains current knowledge of real estate laws, regulations, financing, appraisal, brokerage practices, technology, and evolving industry trends. Collaborates with faculty and program leadership to continuously improve curriculum, instructional quality, and student success.

Educational Requirements for the Position

Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Business, Finance, Construction Management, Urban Planning, or a closely related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Current Texas Real Estate Broker License strongly preferred. Additional industry certifications or professional designations (e.g., GRI, CRS, CCIM, SIOR, CPM, RPA) are desirable depending on the candidate’s area of expertise.

Equivalent combinations of education, extensive industry experience, and professional certifications may be considered.

Experience Required for the Position

Professional experience in residential and/or commercial real estate, brokerage, property management, appraisal, real estate finance, development, construction, or a related field. Previous teaching, training, or workforce development experience is preferred. Strong commitment to the mission of the SHSU Polytechnic College. Demonstrated knowledge of real estate principles, brokerage operations, contracts, agency law, appraisal, finance, property management, and applicable Texas real estate laws and regulations. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Experience with online learning platforms (e.g., Blackboard) is preferred.

Other Requirements for the Position

Preferred qualifications include familiarity with, or willingness to adopt, best practices for online teaching and learning, including the effective use of Blackboard. Demonstrated commitment to quality instruction, student success, career readiness, and workforce development. Ability to integrate current real estate technologies, software, and industry practices into instruction. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; analyze complex information, solve problems, and present real estate concepts in an accessible manner. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a student-centered, customer-service-oriented environment. Applicants must be able to demonstrate fluency in written and spoken English.
