The role of a Learning Mentor involves supporting young people with autism and complex SEND needs to access learning, build confidence, and develop independence in a structured, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Supporting pupils with personalised, hands-on assistance tailored to individual needs
- Acting as a positive role model and developing trusting relationships
- Preparing learning resources and assisting with classroom activities
- Collaborating with teachers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver a therapeutic, pupil-centred approach
- Supporting communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and behaviour
- Encouraging engagement in learning and promoting wellbeing and personal development
- Maintaining accurate records of pupil progress and providing feedback to staff
Qualifications and skills required include GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent), experience in a SEND setting, resilience, empathy, and a proactive attitude. Experience supporting autistic pupils is highly desirable. The role offers a permanent position, 40 hours weekly, with a focus on making a meaningful difference in pupils' lives.
