About This Role
Leading a high-impact engineering team, this role focuses on large-scale, high-performance systems. It is an ideal fit for a highly experienced Ruby Developer with deep expertise in Ruby internals and a proven track record of scaling enterprise-grade applications.
Responsibilities
- Apply deep mastery of Ruby and Rails internals, including MRI, GC, ActiveRecord, middleware stack, and Arel
- Perform performance tuning for N+1 queries, memory leaks, and slow query optimization
- Implement multi-threaded Ruby solutions using Puma and Sidekiq tuning
- Utilize thread pools, Fibers, and Ractors
- Work with async frameworks such as Falcon and Async gem
- Scale Rails applications to handle 10K+ RPS and millions of transactions per day
- Optimize for low-latency API response (sub-50ms under load)
- Design and implement event-driven systems using Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Apply CQRS, Event Sourcing, and Saga patterns
- Design and evolve schemas using Avro or JSON Schema
- Understand eventual consistency and distributed transactions
- Design idempotent APIs
- Work with PostgreSQL for indexing, query tuning, locking, and replication
- Utilize Redis for pub/sub, distributed locks, and caching strategies
- Implement database sharding and read replicas
- Apply deep Sidekiq expertise for queues, retries, dead jobs, and middleware
- Debug Redis contention
- Design job idempotency
- Work with AWS services including EKS, RDS, SQS, and Lambda
- Utilize Docker and Kubernetes
- Build CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Jenkins
- Implement observability with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenSearch
- Implement OAuth2 or JWT authentication
- Design secure APIs with rate limiting, mTLS, and encryption
Requirements
- 12+ years of Ruby development experience
- Strong understanding of MRI internals (GIL, memory model, object allocation)
- Expertise in Ruby GC (mark & sweep, generational GC)
- Expertise in Rails internals (ActiveRecord, middleware stack, Arel)
- Proven ability to scale Rails apps to 10K+ RPS and millions of transactions/day
- Strong understanding of eventual consistency and distributed transactions
- Exposure to PCI-DSS preferred

- Experience with high-frequency trading, payment systems, or crypto platforms
- Experience with JRuby or TruffleRuby

- Experience with fraud detection or real-time risk engines
