Why does the job exist?

The purpose of the position is to provide lead level oversight of senior paralegal support for the Office of General Counsel (OGC). The position will be responsible for intensive and highly technical litigation support for all OGC referrals and assignments, including performing legal research, analyzing legal decisions, opinions, and rulings, and compiling and summarizing substantive information on statutes and specific legal subjects. This position will also be responsible for legislative analysis, rule promulgation, and processing subpoenas and public records requests. This position will also serve as lead oversight for the paralegal team performing these duties in senior level roles.

Provide oversight and direction of the Senior Paralegal team who provide diverse legal support to the Attorneys in the Office of General Counsel.

Minimum Qualification

Associate degree in Paralegal Studies and four (4) years of work experience drafting and preparing legal correspondence, conducting legal research, and maintaining a case management/tracking system. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
