Lead Forensic Scientist

About This Role

Leading the forensic examination of drug products and packaging is the core of this role, which also involves training new forensic scientists and customs officials on anti-counterfeiting best practices. The position suits a scientist with strong analytical skills and experience in laboratory techniques, who is confident in presenting their findings and troubleshooting instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform critical examination of drug products and drug substances, primary, secondary and tertiary packaging, patient information leaflets and labels across Viatris product franchises
• Train new forensic scientists, customs, and ministries of health on best practices of anti-counterfeiting
• Write concise analytical reports, with an understanding of how to translate them into non-scientific terms
• Maintain a tidy forensic laboratory with scheduled maintenance of key equipment
• Present own data, for example, PowerPoint presentations and posters at symposiums
• Process and review data, interpret results, and report experimental outcomes to the Forensic Director
• Lead the troubleshooting of instrumentation and investigation of aberrant sample results
• Maintain laboratory documentation in accordance with cGMP documentation practices
• Contribute to project delivery by carrying out other tasks (e.g., laboratory housekeeping, ordering, shipping samples) as required
• Work with the Director and identify opportunities for improvements in working practices and procedures
• Oversee the day-to-day work of less experienced analytical laboratory staff
• Adhere to all applicable policies and procedures, including those relating to EHS, GLP, Quality and Compliance
• Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the grade of the role
• Help students complete their year in industry project and presentation in a timely manner

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree (for example, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Forensics) or equivalent, or substantial practical work experience
• Willing to testify and defend own case works in a Court of Law
• Willing to travel to deliver training and enhance networking
• Good understanding of laboratory safety and best practice
• Very good verbal and written communication skills
• Good understanding of basic principles of physical, organic, and analytical chemistry, and can demonstrate advanced knowledge in specific areas related to experience
• Highly familiar with calculations used in analytical chemistry and the application of statistics
• Good understanding and substantial practical experience of modern laboratory techniques, including HPLC and FT-IR
