Lead Dispatcher

Duties

• Assists in the organizing, coordinating, and facilitating the technical and daily work of the Communications Center.
• Operates a computerized radio telecommunications console system, controlling multiple radios and frequencies, multiple telephone lines, and complex computerized teletype that accesses national, state, and local law enforcement information data banks.
• Controls parkwide communications networks serving up to 100 radio units.
• Monitors Philadelphia Police Department communications through a scanner and for recording and relaying calls that relate to park law enforcement and operations to the proper personnel.
• Controls a computerized alarm system (both fire and intrusion).
• Receives all emergency calls within the park and is responsible for initiating the appropriate response of law enforcement, fire and/or EMS as needed.
• Recognizes equipment problems, malfunctions and failures on various systems and takes corrective action when able.
• Monitors multiple closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras.
• Maintains a variety of accurate computerized and hand written logs.

To be considered qualified for this Lead Dispatcher GS-2151-07 position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience, outlined in this announcement and referenced in the occupational assessment questionnaire attached to this announcement.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs), competencies to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service. This experience includes, but is not limited to independently operating a dispatch console with multiple radio channels and telephone lines; relaying emergency fire and/or medical information to the police, fire, or appropriate officials; and monitoring computerized alarm and fire systems.

EDUCATION IS NOT QUALIFYING FOR THE GS-07 LEVEL.

You must include dates of employment (month and year) and hours worked per week to receive credit for your work experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. You will not receive credit for experience that does not indicate the exact hours worked per week or is listed as "varies." Part-time hours are prorated.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
