About the role
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The overall responsibility of the Laytime Specialist is to accurately calculate and settle Demurrage, Detention, and Despatch for all marine shipments within stipulated timelines, in accordance with fixture terms and company policies. The role works closely with Trading Desks, Trade Execution, and Maritime Freight teams.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensure all relevant documents are available to enable accurate laytime calculations.

Extract and analyze data from contracts, Charter Parties, Statements of Facts, and other related documents.

Enter data into laytime calculation software and prepare calculations.

Review, compare, and interpret results, highlighting key observations and variances from counterpart calculations.

Communicate findings to logistics operators, providing detailed analysis and expert recommendations to support successful negotiations.

Follow up on outstanding issues and revise calculations in coordination with logistics operators.

Maintain detailed reports including:

Timesheets completed
-
Amount claimed
-
Amount settled
-
Date of finalization
-
Date of receipt of funds

Other relevant operational and financial details

Understand the impact of changes during loading and discharging operations on demurrage and despatch outcomes.

Negotiate laytime claims and settlements with counterparties.

Create provisions, process invoices, make payments, and match encashments in the ITAS accounting system for the EMEA Sugar department.

Perform intercompany reconciliations related to laytime costs.
Education
- MBA / PGDBM in International Business, or equivalent.
- Preference for candidates with experience in international trade execution.
Experience
- 1 to 3 years of experience in Laytime, Post-Fixture Operations, or Bulk Shipping Operations.
