Laboratory Assistant

About This Role

This Laboratory Assistant role involves expertly performing blood collection and specimen processing to aid in patient diagnoses and treatment, ensuring the highest level of patient care. The position requires precise clinical skills for blood collection and specimen handling, combined with a genuine passion for helping others and making patients feel comfortable.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and process blood specimens via capillary or venipuncture, ensuring integrity, proper disposal, and timely distribution to testing areas with special instructions
• Perform clerical duties
• Prioritize patient comfort
• Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions
• Practice Human Kindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions
• Establish and maintain good communication within the department and with other hospital departments
• Comply with isolation and hand sanitization procedures
• Follow blood collection procedures, perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations
• Utilize appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adhere to appropriate volume requirements
• Perform Blood Bank collections, following written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures
• Demonstrate accuracy and good penmanship
• Adhere to specimen requirements
• Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations and storage rooms

Requirements

• High School Graduate or GED
• Basic Life Support - CPR, within 90 Days

Nice to have:

• 3 months phlebotomy experience in an acute care facility
• Phlebotomy certification
