Laboratory Assistant

The position involves a variety of tasks from maintaining the work area to assisting with collections and managing reports.

Responsibilities

• Accept responsibility for own actions; offer and accept constructive criticism in a non-defensive manner
• Adhere to hospital attendance and tardiness policy
• Appropriately clock in/out and return from break and lunch on time
• Adhere to schedule and provide coverage in assigned areas
• Adapt to changes in workflow
• Adjust break and lunch times to ensure appropriate department coverage for optimal patient care
• Answer phone by 4th ring; take messages and transfer calls appropriately
• Strictly follow Personal Telephone/Cell Phone Usage policy (916-010)
• Use and inventory reagents and supplies appropriately; order supplies when needed
• Assist in maintaining general cleanliness and safety of work area to ensure that work area is clean and free of safety hazards
• Assist in phlebotomy/collection
• Manage STAT collection in a timely manner
• Correctly and proficiently chart/mail/fax lab reports to physician mail boxes/offices
• Correctly collect, process/send, document and file COC drug screen
• Distribute incoming/outgoing mail
• Follow SOP for checking and reconciling CBN tests and draws
• Print/review/reconcile computer reports and work sheets as assigned
• Maintain competency in designated work areas
• Perform appropriate volume of workload within specific time frames
• Complete work from previous shifts and assist others as available or needed

Requirements

• 2 years experience
