Laboratory Assistant

About This Role

This laboratory assistant role involves performing routine and specialized assignments within a clinical laboratory setting. It suits a candidate with proficiency in laboratory procedures and phlebotomy skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform equipment maintenance and temperature checks as needed
• Perform accession samples and low to medium complexity laboratory testing as needed
• Prepare buffers and reagents
• Prepare samples for send-out to reference laboratory
• Assist the Medical Technologist in operating various types of laboratory equipment to perform tests in chemistry, bacteriology, urine analysis, and hematology
• Maintain laboratory logs of tests as required and in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School graduate or equivalent
• One (1) - two (2) years of experience as a laboratory assistant
• Phlebotomy skills, including pediatric blood draws
• CPR Certification
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, health center staff, and the public
• Ability to precisely follow written and verbal instructions
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to operate a computer/lab information system
• Good oral and written communication skills

Nice to have:

• Completion of Phlebotomy certification program
