Job Summary:
The Lab Histo Tech - Histotechnologist is responsible for preparing tissue samples for pathological examination in a laboratory setting. They perform a variety of techniques including embedding, cutting, staining, and mounting tissue slides for microscopic analysis by pathologists.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Receive and process tissue specimens according to established protocols.
- Embed tissue samples in paraffin wax blocks for sectioning.
- Cut thin sections of tissue using a microtome.
- Perform special stains and immunohistochemical tests as required.
- Mount and cover tissue slides for examination under a microscope.
- Maintain accurate records of all specimens processed.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Adhere to safety and quality control procedures.
- Assist pathologists with slide reviews and specimen tracking.
- Keep up-to-date with new techniques and advances in histology.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or related field.
- Certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) or Histotechnician (HTL) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a histology laboratory.
- Knowledge of histological techniques and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficient in computer skills and laboratory information systems.
