Pre-Analytical Assistant I is responsible for general support functions within the Technical Operations Department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Receive incoming specimen transport bags from Patient Service Centers (PSCs) and internal laboratory departments.
- Open transport bags and carefully unpack specimens while maintaining specimen integrity.
- Sort and organize specimens by testing department, priority, and temperature requirements.
- Deliver specimens promptly and accurately to the appropriate laboratory departments to support testing turnaround times.
- Perform visual quality checks to verify specimen containers are properly labeled, securely capped, and free from damage prior to delivery.
- Maintain an organized workflow to ensure the continuous movement of specimens throughout the laboratory.
- Follow all laboratory safety procedures, including proper handling of biohazardous materials and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Adhere to HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and company compliance policies at all times.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff to resolve routing questions and ensure timely specimen delivery.
- Participate in training and continuously learn laboratory layout, specimen routing procedures, and department workflows.
Preferred Work Experience:
Previous experience in a production environment
Knowledge:
Medical background preferred which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
Skills:
Minimal data entry skills

- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
