Kitchen Manager

About This Role

The Kitchen Manager supervises food preparation and cooking, maintains kitchen inventory, and ensures compliance with safety and cleanliness standards. This is a working kitchen manager position, meaning the manager will also serve as a line cook during shifts. The role involves managing kitchen staff to deliver quality food on time and fostering a positive team environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage kitchen staff and coordinate food orders
• Supervise food prep and cooking
• Check food plating and temperature
• Establish portion sizes
• Schedule kitchen staff shifts
• Order food supplies and kitchen equipment, as needed
• Train kitchen staff on prep work and food plating techniques
• Store food products in compliance with safety practices (e.g., in refrigerators)
• Keep weekly and monthly cost reports
• Maintain sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen area
• Hire, train, coach, and discipline kitchen team members
• Meet company standards for serving quality food by following company recipes
• Write schedules to meet specific labor budgets
• Place food orders and take inventory
• Control costs by reviewing portion control, adjusting pars on food preparation, and minimizing waste

Requirements

• 3-5 years of work experience as a Kitchen Manager, Restaurant Manager or Head Chef
• Hands-on experience with inventory management and ordering
• Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety regulations
• Excellent organizational skills
• Conflict management abilities
• Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced work environment
• Results driven, trustworthy and team oriented
• Flexibility to work during mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
• ServeSafe Certificate
• Computer knowledge (MS Office, Excel and POS)
• Able to stand for 8 hours and lift 50 lbs.

• Certification from a culinary school or degree in Restaurant Management
