About the role
Entry-Level Civil Engineer Location: Washington, D.C. Job Type: Full-Time Work Arrangement: On-Site Position Summary We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join a growing civil engineering and land development team. This role provides hands-on experience in site development, grading, stormwater management, wet utilities, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, permitting, and construction documentation.
The engineer will work directly under licensed Professional Engineers and contribute to active projects early in their career, building a strong foundation toward EIT and PE licensure.
What You'll Do
- Design site layouts and grading for residential and small commercial sites in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Maryland
- Design stormwater management facilities and erosion and sediment control plans
- Lay out and size wet utilities
- Build hydrologic and hydraulic models and prepare supporting reports
- Produce plans and details using AutoCAD, along with calculations and basis-of-design reports in Excel and Word
- Draft responses to review comments from DCRA, DOEE, DC Water, DDOT Public Space, and Virginia and Maryland equivalents
- Participate in site visits and gain hands-on experience seeing projects through construction
- Work closely with licensed engineers for guidance, feedback, and technical development
Preferred Qualifications
- Civil engineering degree, completed or nearing completion
- FE exam passed or planned; this position is designed to support the path toward professional licensure
- Demonstrated AutoCAD ability through coursework, internship, or other relevant experience; Civil 3D is a plus
- Internship or co-op experience involving real engineering deliverables, with the ability to explain your personal contributions
- Exposure to grading, stormwater, utilities, or civil plan production
- Demonstrated initiative and willingness to go beyond the minimum, whether through work experience, personal projects, extracurricular activities, or long-term pursuits
- Based in the greater Washington, D.C. area or willing to relocate, as projects are concentrated locally
