IT Specialist (Network)

Duties

Position Location: This position is located in the 412 Communications SQ/SCOI. However, this announcement may be used to fill other positions at Hill Air Force Base.

As an IT Specialist (Network), NH-2210-02 you will provide networking techniques to the Edwards Air Force Base network infrastructure and control the network environment. Responsible for implementing and enforcing DoD and Air Force policies, mandates and laws to ensure the availability, integrity and reliability of network resources. Responds to security incidents, network faults, and user outages. Other duties include:

• Implement and enforce Department of Defense (DoD) and Air Force Policies, mandates and laws to ensure the availability, integrity and reliability of network resources.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot network and application server hardware, operating system software, and peripheral network equipment such as routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrators.
• Support the efforts of technicians and support contractors in the daily operations and sustainment of network configuration management.
• Research and evaluate commercial software and hardware systems along with network design plans to determine the application to current and future requirements.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required.

Basic Requirements: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within a field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04), pay band (NH-01), or equivalent. Specialized experience is described as helping to provide networking techniques to the Edwards Air Force Base network infrastructure and control the network environment. Responds to security incidents, network faults, and user outages.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in the developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements.
2. Knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols typically found at base level.
3. Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems.
4. Knowledge of complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems.
5. Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to assess information, plan the sequence of actions necessary, make sound decisions, solve a variety of network problems, analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.

Volunteer Work Experience: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Foreign Education: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
