About the role
Duties
- Serves as a Network Video Teleconferencing Technician, responsible for system management, development and design of Video Teleconferencing (VTC) services and Associated Applications and Equipment.
- Assists in planning and developing network based video teleconferencing systems, installation, implementation, integration of system infrastructure, maintenance and management of network systems used for transmission of information in voice, data, and video formats for video teleconferencing.
- Uses variety of test equipment to troubleshoot and monitor performance.
- Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains local and long haul circuitry in support of VTC connections and associated equipment.
- Coordinates the accomplishment of projects to install and upgrade video teleconferencing peripheral equipment and facilities.
- Monitors the day-to-day performance of video teleconferencing and associated systems utilizing networks and bridges.

Experience required:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.
Specialized IT experience is defined as: experience applying IT concepts; experience working with a diverse range of Video Teleconferencing (VTC) Suites, systems and/or applications; and experience installing, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting and/or resolving hardware and software deficiencies.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Individuals must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendation.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade (or equivalent).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Successful completion of a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
OR
A combination of the experience as described in the "Experience Required" section above and the undergraduate education described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify).
