IT Specialist (InfoSec/Network)

Duties

• Performs network intrusion detection and network vulnerability assessment activities. Supports the wing program manager for Information assurance/operation security with the administration of the COMPUSEC, COMSEC, and Information Assurance (IA) Training programs.

• Performs base network boundary protection operations. Installs, configures and maintains the Base Information Protection (BIP) suite.

• Implements all current network security tools and patches across internal base systems to fix existing vulnerabilities.

• Performs duties as the Computer Systems Security Officer (CSSO) for the BNCC to include the certification and accreditation (C&A) on all BNCC computers and practices.

• Provides proactive and reactive management of C41 resources by monitoring and controlling the network available bandwidth, hardware, and distributed software resources.

This position is obligated to the former incumbent and has return rights to this position under 10 U.S.C. 1586. Upon the employee's return you are subject to being displaced from this obligated position. Qualifications

Specialized Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-07) or equivalent. Specialized experience must include knowledge of communications-computer systems, configurations, operation, applications, governing directives, and various security approaches to perform work for the management of the base-wide communication-computer systems security program and to integrate security considerations (i.e. firewalls, IP addresses) into communications-computer installations, modifications and changes. Individuals must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed as follows: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of the following programs: computer security (COMPUSEC), network security, communications security (COMSEC), missions security (EMSBC) and Information Assurance (IA) Training. Knowledge of the Network Security Program and the characteristics of the Local Area Network. Knowledge of information operation and assurance techniques. Ability to use network operation systems.

2. Knowledge of the MS Windows NT Server operating system and general knowledge of the UNIX operating system.

3. Ability to interpret and apply DoD and Air Force communications and security regulations, instructions, and memorandums.

4. Knowledge of software and programs to protect systems from viruses, data tampering, and unauthorized system entry. This includes knowledge of computer-based instructional software and other media to increase and reinforce communications-computer security awareness.

5. Knowledge of Certificate Management Infrastructure (CMI/PKI). Skill in oral and written communication to prepare written reports, operating instructions, supplemental instructions, specifications, or present briefings.

6. Knowledge of network configuration and operations. Knowledge of hardware and software systems network operations function, communication protocols, diagnostic tools to recover data, analyze customer problems, and provides assistance. Understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the activity's computer equipment configuration, system software, utility programs and programming aids available in order to carry out network and/or telecommunications programs and projects and coordinate efforts with others affected in the organization.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
