About the role
Duties
Serve as a develops configuration and procedural standards for servers, firewalls, proxy servers, routers, switches, and other network hardware and software. Recommends the application, or revision of, policies, standards, methods, and evaluation procedures to meet current and future information systems needs. Provides technical support to Network Enterprise Centers in numerous related areas that can include, but not limited to, network and systems configuring, operating, and maintaining as well as tools for configuration management, patch management, scanning, and security. Develops detailed plans and conducts comprehensive management studies dealing with work measurement, methods and procedures, and/or benchmarking, to identify problems and propose solutions to improve the efficiency and quality of IT services.

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is used to evaluate effectiveness, efficiency and overall performance of regional IT Systems and Networks; develop standards and measures for both network and application performance; perform special studies to determine application or hardware impact on Army regional networks; establish and maintains configuration management to oversee desktop, server, wide area network and local area network configurations; and coordinate operating system and application software fielding within the region.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of Army IT Systems and Networks.
- Skill in Standardizing and Enforcing Hardware and Software Measurements.
- Ability to Communicate.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-12 grade (or equivalent).
