About the role
The Iowa Nursing Home Quality Coalition was established in 2025 to bring nursing home leaders together around shared priorities, collaborative problem solving, and a unified voice in long-term care. What began as seven nursing homes committed to mutual support and quality improvement has grown into a statewide coalition of 84 nursing homes and 27 community partners. The Coalition’s partners represent education, public health, advocacy, aging services, healthcare, emergency management, and long-term care quality improvement. Partners include the University of Iowa College of Nursing, Csomay Center for Gerontological Excellence, Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, UI School of Social Work, UI College of Public Health, Iowa Health and Human Services, Iowa Long-Term Care Ombudsman Office, Johnson County Public Health, Johnson County Emergency Management, Midwest QIN-QIO, University of Iowa Health Care, Alzheimer’s Association, LeadingAge Illinois and Iowa, and Iowa Health Care Association. The VISTA member will help the Coalition build sustainable systems to support statewide nursing home quality improvement, resident-centered care, workforce learning, volunteer and student engagement, resource development, and public awareness. The VISTA will strengthen partner communication, organize evidence-based resources, support website expansion, develop volunteer and student engagement tools, help build funding and grant readiness systems, and create sustainability processes. This capacity-building work will improve the Coalition’s ability to support nursing homes serving low-income and vulnerable older adults across Iowa.

Member Duties : The VISTA will assess current Coalition systems; build a partner database and communication workflow; create outreach, meeting, webinar, and follow-up templates; organize a resource library; develop volunteer and student engagement tools; support funding prospect and Civil Money Penalty fund tracking; create resident/family feedback processes; expand website content planning; support success-story and Kudos recognition processes; and document all systems in a sustainability manual. The VISTA will focus on capacity building, helping INHQC strengthen statewide collaboration and quality-improvement support for nursing homes serving vulnerable older adults.
