Investigator

About This Role

This Investigator role is with the DeKalb County Solicitor-General's Office, where you will lead and coordinate daily work activities, assist Assistant Solicitors with investigations, and prepare cases for trial. The position suits a P.O.S.T. Certified Investigator who can manage complex situations and provide technical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned staff
• Confer with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities
• Organize tasks in order to complete assigned work
• Monitor status of work in progress and inspect completed work, confer with co-workers
• Assist with complex/problem situations, and provide technical expertise
• Assist with training and instructing co-workers regarding department policies and procedures
• Assist with supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations
• Assist assigned Assistant Solicitors in conducting investigations and preparing cases for trial
• Review case files and identify investigative tasks
• Draft and execute search warrants or court orders for evidence
• Collect, secure, and analyze evidence, ensuring chain of custody is maintained
• Assist with interviewing victims and witnesses; survey, photograph, and sketch crime scenes
• Utilize various investigative tools, resources, and programs to obtain necessary information
• Compile witness lists; consult with Assistant Solicitors regarding trial strategies; and testify in court

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminology or Criminal Justice or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
• Two years of experience in investigation, law enforcement, criminology or related field
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license
• Must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification
