Investigator

About This Role

Investigating fraud, regulatory breaches, and safety incidents across Victoria's commercial transport sectors is the core of this role, working within an intelligence-led team. The position involves conducting end-to-end investigations to protect public safety and maintain confidence in the transport industries. It suits an investigator who enjoys solving complex problems and delivering high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct complex fraud, regulatory and safety investigations
• Assess intelligence complaints and available information to identify investigative opportunities
• Collect, analyse and manage evidence using contemporary investigative techniques
• Undertake field operations, surveillance and witness interviews
• Interview witnesses, complainants and persons of interest
• Exercise statutory powers in accordance with relevant legislation
• Prepare investigation reports, briefs of evidence, and enforcement recommendations
• Represent Safe Transport Victoria in court and other legal proceedings
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external regulatory and law enforcement partners

Requirements

• Experience conducting investigations within a regulatory, compliance, fraud or law enforcement environment
• Confident assessing intelligence, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing investigation outcomes
• Experience working independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team environment (highly regarded)
• Curious, professional, and enjoys tackling complex investigations
• Effective communicator with strong analytical skills and sound judgement
• Capable of building positive relationships while maintaining integrity and professionalism in challenging situations
• Thrive working as part of a collaborative team

• Committed to continually developing investigative knowledge and skills
• Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent qualification or relevant investigative experience)
• Current Victorian driver's licence
• Current or ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check, Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) and baseline security clearance
• Australian citizen
• Flexibility to undertake work outside standard business hours, including occasional regional and overnight travel to support operational investigations
• Ability to perform work outside ordinary place of residence, including at ST Vic workplaces
• Exposure to sensitive or confronting material
