Instructional Coach

About This Role

This role involves fostering high-quality instruction in classrooms by modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and providing mastery-oriented feedback to teachers. The Instructional Coach supports the instructional development of all teachers as a generalist working across various subject areas, focusing on improving instructional quality and driving school-wide priority goals.

Responsibilities

• Support the BRCPS Coaching Vision Statement and Purpose as outlined by the BRCPS Coaching Handbook
• Introduce best practices in content areas through demonstration lessons, co-teaching, co-planning, peer observation, live coaching, professional development workshops, and individual teacher meetings
• Plan and implement professional development based on identified needs
• Model effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques for instructional staff
• Provide mastery-oriented, student-centered, non-evaluative written and oral feedback to instructional staff
• Work with teachers to ensure that the school's current instructional programs are implemented to meet all students' needs
• Assist teachers with data analysis and data use to differentiate instruction, provide equitable and inclusive instruction to all learners, and minimize achievement gaps and lowest-performing subgroups of students
• Assist instructional staff in preparing lesson plans with objectives aligned with Common Core State Standards and Universal Design for Learning practices
• Collaborate with leadership to plan and organize New Teacher Orientation and August Professional Development for all staff
• Collaborate with the Literacy, Math, and Science Curriculum Coordinators and school directors to best support instructional goals and priority areas
• Perform additional duties as assigned without additional compensation or stipend

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (Required)
• Master's Degree (Strongly Preferred)
• Three or more years of successful teaching and working in an urban public school
• Deep knowledge of the Common Core State Standards
• Experience working in an urban setting and with diverse student populations (preferred)
• Experience with standards-based assessment and effective use of student data
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers
• Strong communication skills in listening, oral communication, and oral presentation
• Experience providing professional development for teachers
• Strong organizational skills
