Instructional Coach

About This Role

This coaching role supports education staff in strengthening their knowledge, skills, and instructional practices within the Early Childhood team. The Coach uses observations, reflective coaching, professional development, and individualized support to help staff create positive, responsive, and developmentally appropriate learning environments for young children.

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and support to Head Start and Early Head Start education staff through observations, feedback, and individualized coaching plans
• Assist staff with classroom instruction, planning, resources, materials, and implementation of curriculum
• Support staff in using data and observation results to identify areas for growth and develop effective strategies
• Provide professional development and training on early childhood education topics and instructional practices
• Build positive, collaborative relationships with children, families, and staff
• Assist with new staff onboarding, pre-service planning, and trainings as requested
• Support implementation of Head Start Program Performance Standards, Iowa HHS licensing regulations, and CACFP standards
• Complete required observation tools, assessments, reports, and documentation accurately and on time
• Participate in program meetings, conferences, trainings, licensing visits, self-assessments, and Office of Head Start reviews
• Promote effective communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving throughout the program
• May be asked to substitute in classrooms when classroom staff or cooks are absent

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field
• Coursework in early childhood education theories and child development
• Valid Driver’s License and current vehicle insurance
• Willing and able to travel between program locations as needed
• Successfully complete required background checks, fingerprinting, physical examination, and TB screening
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
• Ability to work independently while being an effective member of a team
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately

Nice to have:

• Experience with early childhood education and child development
• Experience with program management, conflict management, team building, technology, or building collaborative relationships
