Institute Director for DTU Bioengineering

About This Role

This strategic leadership position involves heading one of Europe's strongest research environments in biotechnology and biomedicine, DTU Bioengineering. The director will further develop the institute's international standing and create a unified direction for research, education, innovation, and societal impact. The role suits a visionary and unifying leader with a strong scientific background and leadership experience in an academic setting.

Responsibilities

• Create strong collaborations across DTU, as well as with national and international universities, hospitals, companies, and authorities
• Ensure attractive conditions for securing external research funding
• Recruit and develop research and leadership talents at all levels
• Strengthen the quality and strategic importance of teaching
• Ensure close interaction between research, teaching, and administration to effectively and professionally support the institute's core tasks
• Support a diverse, inclusive, and international work environment characterized by high professionalism, well-being, and collaboration
• Actively participate in DTU's director's circle and contribute to the university's overall strategic development
• Create the best conditions for cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing across the institute's research areas
• Support a culture characterized by commitment, cooperation, trustworthiness, openness, transparency, and mutual respect and recognition

Requirements

• Internationally recognized researcher in one or more of the institute's subject areas
• Solid experience from a research or university environment with experience in building and developing a research group or environment
• Documented experience with strategic leadership and attracting external research funding
• Ability to create followership among highly specialized research environments
• Visible and trustworthy leader who creates engagement around common goals and can translate visions into concrete priorities and results
• Solid leadership experience from an academic environment and understanding of the specific conditions that characterize leadership in a university context
• In-depth knowledge of the national and international research landscape
• Experience with strategic development and prioritization in complex organizations
• Strong national and international network
• Ability to create followership, cohesion, and shared ambitions
• Strong communicative competencies and the ability to communicate clearly in English, as well as Danish or another Scandinavian language
