Duties
As an Information Technology Specialist (Network/SysAdmin), GS-2210-11 you will perform the following duties:
- Perform system administration duties for, and operates, the Fort Bliss Trunked Radio and Land Mobile systems.
- Review, analyze, change, document, and update the hardware and software system configuration.
- Manage, maintain and administer database that controls which users have access to specific system features and remote sites.
- Coordinate with using activities in order to determine specific programing requirements.
- Evaluate radios by reading radio data, research radio variables and determine capabilities.
- Load data into radios, label radios with identification and save files of each radio.
- Program radio variables into the trunking system to include setting priority levels, interconnect capabilities, time allotments and site authorizations.
- Manage system maintenance process defined in the system warranty and will oversee site visits for system site checks, installation, repair, and preventive maintenance required.
- Provide technical description, ensuring spectrum authorization and compatibility with other base systems, equipment capability, and ascertains whether additional land mobile radio equipment can be added.
- Provides technical solutions and identifies and selects candidates and equipment necessary to satisfy the mission.
- Provide support to mobile communications trailers.
Qualifications

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience in database management, maintenance and programing of mobile radios, diagnosing and resolving communication equipment problems, familiarity in frequency maintenance AND I possess experience in Information Technology on each of the following competencies: 1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality product and a services. 3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sounds judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of Communication Concepts, Principles and Practices
- Knowledge of Frequency Management Techniques
- Skill in Utilization of Land Mobile Radio Systems
- Ability to Communicate Orally
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade (or equivalent).
Note: To Support Time in Grade (TIG) requirement MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/NPA that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package. Failure to do so may affect your rating or consideration for employment.
