About the role

Duties
As an Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC) you will:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to CDC to ensure availability of IT systems, service and capabilities.
  • Monitor and evaluate infrastructure systems compliance with IT security requirements as determined by CDC, HHS and other government guidance and regulations.
  • Provide advice and guidance in implementing IT monitoring policies and procedures in the development and operation of network systems, telecommunications systems, personal computing, video-conferencing, infrastructure software and server support.
  • Ensure proper protection of data and privacy while investigating computer and network availability and performance issues.
  • Evaluate and recommend the acquisition of, implementation of and dissemination of IT security & performance monitoring tools, procedures and practices to protect information assets.
  • Plan and coordinate the delivery of IT monitoring training for ITSO staff.
  • Assist in the performance of risk assessments, vulnerability analyses and the development of Certification and Accreditation documentation and security plans for infrastructure systems and facilities. Recommend new or revised security measures and countermeasures based on the results of accreditation reviews.
  • Coordinate with Infrastructure Emergency Preparedness Activity to update contingency or disaster recovery plans. Coordinates with emergency response centers when required for special programs which are remote to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). When this occurs, provide IT monitoring support for EOC staff outside of the EOC facility.

Qualifications
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience with IT Security Certification and Accreditation processes, security risk assessments, implementation of IT security controls and countermeasures and IT network and endpoint monitoring technologies used in a Microsoft Windows enterprise. Applicants must also have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
