Duties
As an IT Specialist (Systems Administration), you will perform the following duties:
- Manage Active Directory services for the Fort Leavenworth installation.
- Provide security permission roles for Network Enterprise Center (NEC) Cyber Security Division for use by installation and Information Assurance Security Officers (IASOs).
- Monitor local system backups and perform restores as required. Database Administrator for Microsoft SQL server and databases for supporting System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and System Center Operations Manager (SCOM).
- Perform system hardening in accordance with the Army Gold Master (AGM) settings, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG), and Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) requirements using Group Policy and local security policy.
Qualifications

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: (1) recovering data in the event of hardware or software failure; (2) upgrading supported work station software (3) monitoring and troubleshooting systems availability. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
IT Competencies: For this occupational series, there are competency requirements in addition to specialized experience and/or education that applicants must possess in order to be minimally qualified. The competencies below must also be demonstrated in your resume.
- Attention to Detail: Review data from multiple sources and determine relevant information to a given situation. Draft, edit and disseminate written reports and status updates that are factual, timely and relatively error free.
- Customer Service: Develop and maintain relationships with customers with diverse needs. Provide technical information about products and services. Assess the needs of customers and identify or tailor products and/or services to meet their needs.
- Oral Communication: Communicate, explain or defend ideas or information clearly. Listen to others and recognize potential miscommunications.
- Problem Solving: Use logic to identify alternatives to solve technical problems. Identify and solve problems by gathering and applying information from a variety of materials or sources that provide several alternatives.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:
- Knowledge of systems administration methods
- Skill in performance monitoring
- Ability to communicate orally
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-09 grade (or equivalent).
All Applicants must meet time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements with thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Successful completion of a PH.D or equivalent degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks from an accredited college or university.
