About This Role
This Director role oversees the Information Technology Department for St. Joseph County, serving as the primary authority on Management Information Systems. The position involves strategic planning, team leadership, and ensuring the effective coordination of IT systems to meet County needs.
Responsibilities
- Report directly to the County Board of Commissioners
- Oversee the Information Technology Department, including staff, workload, hiring, evaluating performance, and discipline
- Provide strategic planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of IT systems
- Develop protocols, policies, and procedures with effective training of all staff on changes and expectations
- Research, contract, and implement cost-effective technology equipment and software which aligns with County budget needs and technology evolution
- Facilitate relationships with vendors and collaborate with County leadership
- Prepare and submit an annual operating budget, proposed contracts, departmental reports, and project updates to the Board of Commissioners based on current and anticipated IT needs
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid driving license
- Knowledge and skills in network operation, including installation and troubleshooting
- Knowledge in business modeling, plan generation, process development, project management, and strategic thinking
- Ability to solve complex problems
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing using standard English with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Ability to plan and present public speaking presentations
- Ability to work in committees as well as independently with potentially several working projects at one time
- Baccalaureate Degree in Computer Science or other closely related field
- Minimum of four years’ experience managing an IT team with overarching responsibility in strategy
