CalPERS, one of California's premier state agencies, is recruiting an experienced communicator with a desire to educate 2.4 million members about retirement and health benefits and help them understand how CalPERS is working on their behalf.
Under the administrative direction of the Supervisor II, the Video Communications Officer (Information Officer II) serves as a member of the Video Communications Unit, collaborating with colleagues to produce multimedia content, and providing support in all phases of multimedia content creation, including executive communications and presentation skills training.
Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.
Sponsorship: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship. CalPERS does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.
Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

Statement of Qualifications

The SOQ must be typed, titled “Statement of Qualifications,” and each response must list all relevant experience, education, and training, including duties performed. The SOQ must not exceed two pages in length.
- Provide examples of your on-camera work and the platforms in which they appeared, including voiceover work, emcee or event facilitation and social media channels. What types of audiences have you engaged with and how do you adapt your approach for different platforms?
- Describe your experience producing video content. What equipment did you use to produce the content (cameras, audio, lights, editing software)?
- Based on the primary duties listed in the duty statement for this position, describe what unique qualities you possess to make you the most qualified person for this role. Be specific about how your experience and abilities prepare you to be a public face of CalPERS.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Skilled communicator who demonstrates the ability to write creatively for multiple audiences
- Professional social media management and content creation
- Video and photography production expertise, including proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder)
- Ability to prioritize work to meet specified deadlines and perform assigned work with minimal supervision
- Ability to think creatively, exercise initiative, and communicate information
