Industrial Controls Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Industrial Controls Engineer to become a vital member of our expanding engineering department. You will be tasked with the full lifecycle of automated manufacturing systems, from initial design and programming to final commissioning. By working closely with our mechanical, manufacturing, and client teams, you will ensure the delivery of high-quality, dependable automation solutions.

Core Responsibilities

• Create, engineer, and deploy industrial control systems for automated production machinery.
• Handle the programming and diagnostic tasks for PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and industrial networks.
• Draft electrical schematics, design panel layouts, and generate Bills of Material via AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent tools.
• Set up industrial communication networks such as EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, Ethernet TCP/IP, and DeviceNet to ensure seamless data flow.
• Integrate advanced motion control components, including servos, robotics, vision systems, and safety controllers, to enhance system functionality.
• Execute comprehensive testing, debugging, FATs, SATs, and system validation procedures to guarantee operational excellence.
• Provide on-site support for equipment installation, startup, and commissioning at client locations.
• Identify and rectify electrical, controls, and software malfunctions during production runs and field service calls.
• Partner with mechanical, manufacturing, and project management teams to streamline project execution.
• Produce and update essential technical documentation, such as electrical diagrams, PLC records, user manuals, and commissioning summaries.
• Contribute to ongoing improvement efforts by pinpointing ways to boost machine reliability, maximize uptime, and optimize overall performance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in the design of industrial automation or machine control systems.
• Extensive PLC programming proficiency with platforms such as Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, or Beckhoff.
• Proven ability to program HMI interfaces like FactoryTalk View or WinCC.
• Deep understanding of servo systems, VFDs, motion control, and industrial robotics.
• Practical experience with industrial networking and communication standards.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and draft electrical schematics.
• Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
• Strong analytical skills to effectively troubleshoot electrical and automation systems.
• Readiness to travel up to 20–30% of the time for customer-site installations and commissioning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating robotic systems from manufacturers like Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, or Universal Robots.
• Background in vision systems from vendors such as Cognex, Keyence, or Banner.
• Familiarity with machine safety standards and safety-rated PLCs.
• Knowledge of SQL databases, SCADA platforms, or IIoT technologies.
• Experience in sectors such as custom machine building, systems integration, automotive, food & beverage, packaging, or material handling.
