Immigration Paralegal

About This Role

This paralegal role supports attorneys in a boutique immigration law firm specializing in employment-based and family-based immigration, with a significant Spanish-speaking client base. The position is for a detail-oriented individual who will assist clients through the legal process, contributing to the firm's ethical practice and growth.

Responsibilities

• Prepare immigration petitions and applications under attorney supervision
• Use templates and checklists to prepare documents and correspondence for attorney review
• Obtain translations and education evaluations
• Perform legal research
• Interact with clients to collect documents and information
• Document interactions
• Maintain up-to-date "living lists" of documents needed and reminder lists in case management software
• Save and organize digital documents using firm document naming conventions
• Use office systems to assist with administrative tasks as needed
• Help write blog articles about topics in immigration law and bureaucracy
• Contribute ideas to improve processes and update templates
• Run reports, develop and use case flows and checklists for various case types
• Use software including LawLogix, Caret Legal, Cognito, Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams, Outlook), GotoConnect phones/texting, Dashlane, and Zoom

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in any field
• Strong and constant attention to detail, commitment to excellent work product
• High level of organization and ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, verbal and written
• Exceptional writing skills, especially in English
• Computer savvy, including Office 365 and pdf software, and open to evolving tech stack
• Cultural humility
• Disposed to treat clients and team members with compassion and dignity
• Willingness to learn quickly on the job and become expert in aspects of U.S. immigration law arising frequently in cases

Important Details

• Start date: As soon as possible
• Schedule: 5 days, 8-hour shift per day, Monday to Friday (40 hours, no overtime)
• Employment type: Full-time or Part-time
