Immigration Paralegal

About This Role

The Immigration Paralegal will support the expanding Immigration & Asylum department at the Stockport office of a growing law firm. This full-time, office-based position involves assisting with a broad range of privately funded and Legal Aid immigration matters alongside experienced solicitors and accredited senior caseworkers.

Responsibilities

• Assist with asylum claims, appeals, further submissions and human rights applications
• Prepare visa applications, including Skilled Worker, family and settlement applications
• Support business immigration matters, including sponsor licence applications and compliance
• Draft legal representations, witness statements, correspondence and supporting documents
• Conduct legal research and prepare case bundles
• Liaise with clients, the Home Office, tribunals and other relevant parties
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with internal procedures, SRA requirements and Legal Aid standards
• Manage deadlines and support the efficient progression of cases

Requirements

• A law degree, GDL or equivalent legal qualification or relevant experience
• Previous experience in UK immigration and asylum law is desirable
• Strong legal drafting, research and analytical skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within a team
• A professional, client-focused approach, particularly when assisting vulnerable individuals
• Familiarity with Legal Aid procedures and case management systems, including LEAP, would be advantageous

Nice to have:

• IAAS accreditation (Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme) is preferred, particularly for candidates with Legal Aid experience
