Job Summary
The Hyperbaric Technician supports the safe and efficient delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients. This role is responsible for preparing and monitoring patients and equipment, maintaining a safe treatment environment, and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other members of the clinical team to provide high-quality patient care.
What We're Looking For:
- Education: High School or GED required. Vocational / Technical LPN or EMT/Paramedic, preferred.
- Experience: 2 years In the medical field, required.
- Licensure/Certification: Licensed Practical nurse or EMT/Paramedic, preferred.
- Additional Skills/Requirements (required):
- Successful completion of a NBDHMT/UHMS approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course.
- Must obtain certificate of competency in transcutaneous oximetry monitoring.
- Upon eligibility, must obtain certification for Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) and maintain certification.
- Must complete an 8 hour wound care course and a preceptorship with a certified wound care nurse.
- Must have patient care experience.
- Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred): Emergency medicine and/or hyperbaric diving experience.
What You'll Do:
- Prepare hyperbaric chambers and equipment for daily patient treatments.
- Perform required safety checks and inspections before, during, and after treatments.
- Prepare patients for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and provide education regarding the treatment process and safety requirements.
- Monitor patients throughout treatment and maintain communication with patients while they are in the hyperbaric chamber.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition or treatment tolerance to the appropriate clinical team member.
- Clean, inspect, and assist with routine maintenance of hyperbaric equipment and treatment areas.
- Follow all established infection prevention, patient safety, fire safety, and hyperbaric safety standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, wound care specialists, and other team members to coordinate patient care.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating patient treatments to support efficient clinic operations and patient flow.
- Maintain required certifications, competencies, and continuing education.
