Duties
At the full performance level:
- Gathers hydrologic data concerning the quantity, quality, availability, movement and distribution of water.
- Coordinates work with staff, contractors and employees of outside agencies. Trains less experienced technicians.
- Performs a variety of computations and analysis of water resource data to prepare the data for interpretive use or inclusion in reports.
- Visits field sites monthly for the purpose of performing discharge measurements, calibrating, adjusting and repairing remote telemetry units.
- Up to 50% of time is spent performing duties in the field.
Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-05 level: You must have completed a full 4-year course of study above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree with (a) major study in an appropriate field of science, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, industrial technology, construction drafting, surveying, physical science, biology, or mathematics OR your resume must reflect one year of full time experience collecting water quality samples; collecting and processing hydrologic data; performing discharge measurements using a vertical axis current meter; and assisting in performing differential leveling surveys.
To qualify at the GS-06 level: Your resume must reflect one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-05 level using water measuring devices to collect, compute, or process hydrologic data gathered from rivers, streams, wells etc.; using common software applications to compute and analyze hydrologic data, maintains stream gaging station and surrounding areas; and performs differential leveling surveys.
To qualify at the GS-07 level: You must have 1 year of graduate education, if related OR your resume must reflect one year of full time experience at the GS-06 level using a variety of water measuring devices including hydro-acoustic devices to collect, compute, or process hydrologic data gathered from rivers, streams, wells etc.; using specialized software applications to compute and generate hydrologic data, charts and reports; and installing and maintaining water measurement instruments and devices to assure accuracy of data collection.
