About the role

Duties

This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of Human Capital (OHC), Programs Operations Unit. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Conducting New Hire Orientations and training in specific human capital program areas;
  • Advising management and staff on performance management, performance improvement planning and monitoring, employee awards, telework, compensatory time, leave and other related services;
  • Partnering with management on the development of employee performance work plans;
  • Recommending improvements to the performance evaluation process, tools, and tracking mechanisms; and
  • Providing expert level guidance and consultation to management, staff and employees on complex benefit entitlements

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal service, performing duties such as:

  • Providing technical assistance, guidance and training on performance management, employee awards, the telework program and benefit entitlements;
  • Auditing on-boarding materials for relevancy and accuracy; implementing orientations and onboarding programs for new hires;
  • Responding effectively and timely to employee benefit inquiries, issues and requests; and
  • Assisting with the management and monitoring of the telework program.

National Service Experience (i.e. volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
