About the role

Duties

The incumbent serves as a Human Resources Specialist (Classification & Compensation) in the Human Resources Management Service at the VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS).

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Classifies complex, rare, or unusual jobs, and prepares necessary documentation, in the GS classification and FWS job grading systems.
  • Provides in-depth position classification and position management support to assigned areas.
  • Reviews draft regulations, standards, or other guidance for impact on the serviced organizations.
  • Develops recommendations/advisories on various pay administration projects.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am - 4:00pm

Note: This position is virtual, salary will be determined based on the duty location of the selectee and OPM's locality pay table.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: identifying, interpreting, analyzing and applying appropriate Office of Personnel Management (OPM) position classification standards in establishing and/or modifying position descriptions; determining appropriate series/title/grade of positions through comparisons with applicable OPM and/or VA position classification standards and/or guidance; and providing authoritative advice and counsel to management officials.

There is no educational substitution for the GS-12 level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
