Description

The Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA) is currently seeking a motivated and organized Human Resource Specialist to join the Division of Human Resources. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is beginning a career in HR and wants to gain hands-on experience in various HR areas such as: payroll, personnel administration, benefits administration, onboarding, recruitment, and employee engagement.

Located in Frankfort, Kentucky, KPPA is responsible for the investment of funds and administration of pension and health insurance benefits for nearly 444,000 state and local government employees, state police officers, and nonteaching staff of local school boards and regional universities. Daily system activities, including administrative support, investment management, benefits counseling, accounting and payroll functions, and legal services, are performed by a staff of professional employees working as the KPPA. KPPA covers three separate systems: Kentucky Employees Retirement Systems (KERS), County Employees Retirement System (CERS), and the State Police Retirement System (SPRS).

Key Responsibilities:
Prepares and processes personnel and payroll documents

Assists to resolve timesheet issues

Assists with recruitment activities including attending job fairs and assisting interview panels

Prepares and facilitates new hire orientation

Assists with employee engagement activities

Images HR documents into appropriate programs

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Strong attention to detail

Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Flexible and capable of adjusting quickly to evolving business needs

Willingness to learn and develop HR knowledge

Proficient in Microsoft Office products

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional experience in personnel administration, business administration or management.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Administrative, business, research, and, or, clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
